First, thanks to everybody who chimed in. It's not over yet, though. So far, we know that the code works fine when run on an NT machine, and we know it works fine when run on the V4R4 box that's been running it for over a year with no problem. We also know that it fails consistently when moved to a V4R5 box, giving a Null Pointer Exception in the "send0" method of "Transport," at a line number that shouldn't be capable of throwing such an exception, UNLESS I turn on "debug" in the "Session" used, in which case it works fine, with equal consistency. 'Twouldn't be the first time merely turning on a debugging facility kept a problem from occurring, but I can't very well put it into production that way, Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle notwithstanding. -- James H.
