Yes Wayne, by setting up a cursor.  But we do this within the program that 
returns a result set, using the Multiple occur DS.  We keep track of how many 
we sent and read the next 1000 from there.  We use the key fields, if they are 
necessary and either way, this works out efficiently.  There is a return 
parameter to the Java that tells if any more records are available in the file 
or not.  Accordingly, the Java can either make multiple calls at the same time 
or make the call when the user requests for it, to avoid traffic overflow.

We use the Stored procs for this purpose.  The Set Result Set has a number
of rows clause that helps monitor number of rows to be returned.  (Stored
procs also use JDBC driver.)

        C/EXEC SQL SET RESULT SETS ARRAY :outrec FOR :count ROWS
        C/END-EXEC

Here the count can be whatever you want it to be.

We have a Java batch program running on AS/400 by using native JDBC driver.
The program have various random exceptions when the data are processed up to
about 25000 records.  The result set returned about 50000 records.

We would like to reduce the number of rows returned by JDBC driver Result
Set.  How to specify the number of rows from: rs =
stmt.executeQuery(aSQLQuery) ?
For example first 1000 rows.  Then how to get the next 1000 rows?
