Ranting? - you Joe? - never ! <grin>

 >> I've been waiting for this latest release to see what's what. Does the
new release require V5R1 or V5R2?

Ok - I should have stated that I really was talking about Eclipse and _not _
WDSC which is the iSeries client product based on it. Since you don't
want/need WebFacing etc. you might find working with just the basic Eclipse
(www.eclipse.org) as much as you need and it won't have any release
dependencies. It is the (relatively) new R2 of this code that supposedly
has the new Java support.

As far as the 400 is concerned, they are in the process of adding a whole
bunch of new 400 stuff which will come in the next release of WDSC. That
will coincide with WAS 5 and be based on the R2 Eclipse. So it will have a
bunch of new 400 specific stuff and inherit all of the R2 Eclipse code.
When it is released it will (as with the current version) have been tested
against all supported OS400 releases (at present that means V5R1 and V5R2)
but should work against others too - but they aren't allowed to PTF to any
other releases so if it doesn't work .......
