Tim, XSLT already supports pagination. If you look at the XSLT-FO specifications you will find that pretty much anything you might need is defined. The biggest question is performance. The only implementation that I know of is FOP. You can get it to run over about 40-50 pages, maybe more if you have a lot of memory and a fast system but I wouldn't count on it. If < 40 pages is OK I would look into it. I started to build a common view of data that could be used to go to the Web, Print, Handheld, etc. and found that what I was developing looked a lot like XHTML so I just adopted XHTML, which works for now but with XHTML 2.0 the formatting elements are gone. Pages are all generated as XHTML and then transformed to print using FOP. I look at the stream size being passed to FOP and disallow large streams. I have XML data, Purchase Order and Invoice Data... I was asked to create a web view of this data, either for web purposes, or e-mail or Faxing. My questions is this: Printing!!! Whats the best way during the XSLT process to count line numbers, and set page breaks.. And what html code or css would I need to force a page break for printing on a browser print or fax card. Thanks, tim
