Mike, I think the following may help in what you are trying to acheive. Security roles can be defined in your application deployment descriptor (web.xml). You can map a user id's as belonging to one or more roles. The HttpServletRequest has the method isUserInRole(String role). This returns a boolean indicating whether the user making this request belongs to a given role. The user's id can also be retrieved using getRemoteUser(). This is documented in the Servlet API, which you can find here: http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/ Rob Stanley GEAC Enterprise Solutions -----Original Message----- From: Mike Silvers [mailto:msilvers@HBS-INC.COM] Sent: 31 July 2002 20:11 To: java400-l@midrange.com Cc: IGNITe/400 Mailing List Subject: Validation lists and Apache All, I need to determine which validation list the user used to sign in with using a servlet. I was looking at the HttpRequest attributes and methods, but I can not determine anything there. Does anyone have any ideas? What I am trying to accomplish here is to have a common control servlet to work with different levels of authorization. A customer can only receive specific information when they sign in this site where a Customer Service Representative can receive more information. I was going to try and determine their level of authority by determining which validation list was used for their signin. There are different validation lists for different levels of authorization for other reasons and I wanted to use this as my determination. Any ideas?? Thanks!
