I looked at my AS400JDBCConnection class and it does not have a getSystem()
method.  it has a getAS400() method but it is not visible.  We are using
v5.1 jt400 toolbox.

Not directly ... but you if you declare the JDBC connection an
AS400JDBCConnection, you can retrieve an AS400 object from it (using
getSystem()) ... you can then use that object to perform data area
manipulations and command calls.
