Doesn't surprise me and explains why I've never seen it. Here are two other possibilities... 1. Since the base classes are both Abstract, find one of their subclasses and Contain those. 2. If you cannot find any or do not know what they are, you could create innerclasses that extend them and then contain instances of those inner classes, like so: public myClass { public C1 extends Vendor1Class { ... } public C2 extends Vendor2Class { ... } C1 c1 = new C1(); C2 c2 = new C2(); // do stuff with Containers... } Just more ideas.
