Great question....

Today, we develop in VAJ and export to IFS. We usually recompile (and
optimize) stand alone applications on the 400.
Anything else (like beans for the web site), we truck out to the site. We
haven't JARed anything yet, because in
Websphere, it's a lot easier to replace the class than the jar (WAS tends to
not want the jar changed while running).
Additionally, adding a new jar means adding it to the CLASSPATH, which again,
means dropping the server.

Would like to hear about how to use CVS (or comparable product) with VisualAge
for Java - Professional. Seems like all
the good collaborative stuff is in the enterprise version. *sigh*

Subject: Where do you keep your source?

Folks:

I'm kind of curious how folks manage their java source for the 400?

Specifically, does anyone really use source physical files for real world,
ongoing, development of Java?

Could you answer with one of the following ...

Java source is stored ...
1. in source physical files and copied to IFS for compilation and JAR'ing.
2. in the IFS and compiled & JAR'ed there.
3. on another system (PC / Unix) and transferred to the 400 for compilation
4. on another system and compiled there. Resultant class files are
transferred to 400 for JARing and optimization.
5. on another system, compiled, and JAR'ed there. Resultant JAR file is
transferred to 400 for optimization.

Thanks!

david
