It is Java implementation of the w3c standard used to generate pdf documents
from XML/XSL document.

In fact you have your data in one XML document.
There is an XSL grammar to build PDF document (like, the first page is
always like than,
then for the next pages add a footer and a heater, page break ...).

You describe you pdf document in XSL, parse the XML document with, and FOP
uses JAva APIs
to create the document dynamically

What's a FOP?
Around here, we generate PDFs from Java with GNUJPDF.
(But,
come to think of it, I don't think we've done anything with graphics
there,
either)
