I also do not see an eclipse Tools project that is targeting Java. On the
eclipse site I only see a C/C++ Tools project.

Will eclipse be targeting Java development as well or did I miss something?

Yes MOST of VaJava is being migrated into the Eclipse
workbench.  There ARE differences for sure.  Right
now, no VCE at all ( easy way to do client / server
gui's).  The Debugger is SLIGHTLY different.  Version
control with CVS is ALOT different ( more skills
needed )...
