Brad, The static modifier does not have anything to do with accessibility. The static modifier only means that the variable is CLASS specific, not INSTANCE specific. When you make something static, there is only one reference made. When you do not make a variable static, there is a reference to a memory position for each instance of that class. To make sure that all users can use the AS/400 connection pool, you need to make sure there is public access to it at some point.
