AS400Exception: CPF5035 Data mapping error

I am getting an error on my update.  I use the same code in many places but
I have a file that will not allow me to write a record because I get this
exception:

com.ibm.as400.access.AS400Exception: CPF5035 Data mapping error on member
V2BILM.

What does this mean?  It appears to me that it means I have a data type
mismatch but I have checked the data type and they all match.  I have even
tried to write a blank record and I get the same error. ie.

Record rec = file.getRecordFormat().getNewRecord();
file.write(rec);

What am I missing?
