Use "java testMe1"
The java command takes a class name (including optional
package name), not a directory qualified name.
Your classname is only 'testMe1'.

For this invocation:
The class loader searches for files named testMe1.class
in each directory/jar file in the classpath.

If there is a package specified on the command line
The package portion of the class name must be a
subdirectory in one of the class path directories or jar
files, and the .class file must be located in that
directory.
The class must also have a 'package mypackage'
as the first line in the source.

I.e. if you named your class mypackage.testMe1:,
then your classpath would stay the same
(/home/MSILVERS), but your source and classfiles
would be put in the /home/MSILVERS/mypackage
directory, and you'd use the command:
"java mypackage.testMe1"

BTW, the classpath entry /. probably doesn't do
what you think it does?
/ alone would be to search the root directory.
. alone would be to search the current directory.
/. would _probably_ search the root directory, but I'm not too sure.

In every single ethnic, religious or racial group, there are a
very few truly evil people. For each of those people there
are many, many, many good people.
Assuming anything (evilness or capability for evil) about the
particular group is bigotry and idiocy. Don't do it. -- Me
