Denis,

A few people have suggested you look at the Java Mail Framework. I
remember a tutorial that described how to get it working on the AS/400.

I didn't find that link, but  I found this tutorial at the developer
works site:

You will have to have a password and tell them more than just your name

rank and serial number,  but it is free.
