hi,

i tried the same myself. couldn't get any TEXT or COLHDG from a database
field either and also posted the same question. i'm using jtopen 2.04.
i got the answer, that with the methods getTEXT() and getCOLHDG() you can
only get the TEXT and COLHDG you previously set and no values from the
system.
now i'm trying to get them with system apis and PCML. but as i'm quite new
to the PCML and system apis stuff, i got some problems.

so i think you got no luck with that.

Hello all,

Does anybody know how to retrieve the TEXT or COLHDG of a database field?
I'm using the SequentialFile, RecordFormat, FielDescription and
AS400DataType classes
to retrieve all the information needed about database fields of a given
file.

Unfortunately the getText() method of FieldDescription does not return the
TEXT value
defined in the DDS on the system. The database fields are all defined using
reference fields.

I'm not using the open version of the toolbox. Could this make any
difference?
Is there another way to retrieve this info using java? (not system api's)
