Thanks for the reply. The CCSID of my job is 65535. The code page of the java source files is 819. If this is the reason why JAVAC under Java 1.3 doesn't work, why does JAVAC under Java 1.2 work?

Hello Darrell,

What code page (or CCSID) are you running under?  Check the following

        o CCSID of job
        o CCSID of java source file

I suspect the compiler is having trouble converting the CCSID of the file
into its preferred CCSID (usually 37).  This is generally not the
compiler's fault but rather a limitation on certain CCSIDs.
