Possible note of interest. I was traveling back from COMMON, sat on a
plane next to some guy reading Java Developers Journal. He was a Java
developer.
I asked him if he had seen the new JVM benchmarks.
(BTW, I was wearing an AS/400 tshirt)
His reply was "No, you mean they are trying to bring back that legacy
machine?" I then told about ValanoMark and Specjbb2000 and iSeries
scores.

Which got me to wondering, Has anyone visited JDJ's website or gets the
magazine?

I just did and noticed that they were having a "Vote for Your favorite
Java xxxxx"
thing. I noticed that they were also having a forum discussion on why
IBM's
JVM wasn't on the selection list. Well, you know me, I had to reply.

Has anyone written an article for them? Or joined in on one of their
forums? One of you people should. There some great experts on this
list.
Maybe the next guy you meet somewhere will say, "Oh Ya, I heard that
machine is a great Java platform" Instead of "What that legacy system?"

respectfully

My forum post

http://www.javadevelopersjournal.com/

It's ironic and very telling that IBM's JVM's are not on the ballet.

When in the ValanoMark benchmarks the iSeries destroyed Sun, Compaq and
everything else (first to post a 6 digit score).   And in the Specjbb2000
benchmark the iSeries again destroyed Sun's 6800 Sunfire machine with a
score
of 132,322 Trans/sec while the Sunfire scored only 109,146 AND ! while
Sun's
machine had a 2.8 second max wait time(for garbage collection) the iSeries
had a .18 second time.

The IBM iSeries server is the only machine whose garbage collection happens
asynchronously.

So why again does this magazine not want iSeries's JVM on the ballet?  It's
full 64 bits BTW. (since '95).

Sounds like you really don't want a fair race since the leader in nearly
every benchmark is not included.

Please answer this for us?   Unless of course you are owned lock, stock and
barrel by Sun and Oracle.   Or you may mention that also just so we know
where your leanings are.
