If I can recall something this old and this basic, it is the "severity" of the message that determines whether it cancels the job or not. Moreover, anyone could, in principle, create and define message files and messages. You can at least create a message file and I think there's APIs to do more than that. In any event, most of this sort of thing is supplied by OS/400 or its LPPs, obviously enough. But, that's the architecture. The actual messages supplied by IBM have a set of protocols -- the severities are not chosen by accident. This is just the sort of message that should not ordinarily terminate a job and so would have a low severity. Larry W.
