I dont know if you agree Joe, but I would like to expand on some of the design patterns you mentioned below. It would appear to me that quite a number of those moving from RPG to java are using it as a new language (quite possibly for career reasons) without understanding the power of the language and in particular OO techniques. I'm not criticising such use of java, but it would be like trying to code in RPGIV without using subprocedures and service programs (as examples) As I could thoroughly recommend "A sorceror's guide to System Access and more" for RPG I think it would be valuable for budding java programs to perhaps refer to a number of books which I have used since starting C++ programming( and laterly java). The first is "Design Patterns - Elements of Reusable Object Orientated Software"- Gamma et Al which is a must have for any OO programmers and "Java Design Patterns - A tutorial" - James W Cooper which I found explained the basic and more enhanced patterns in java in an easy to read form Tony -----Original Message----- From: owner-java400-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-java400-l@midrange.com ] On Behalf Of Joe Pluta Sent: 06 March 2001 19:17 To: JAVA400-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: HTML to XML, vice versa I can do it easily because I use a decorator class that in turn uses a factory class. To do this, I break down the data stream into something abstract: A "table" has a "table header" and a "table trailer", and between those has 0-N "tablerows" A "tablerow" has a "tablerow header" and a "tablerow trailer", and between those, has 0-n "tablecells" +--- +--- | This is the JAVA/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to JAVA400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to JAVA400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to JAVA400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner: joe@zappie.net +---
