Does the job the servlet runs under have a password of *NONE? The Toolbox
IFS* classes use the file server to access files (even when the Java
program and file are on the same AS/400). The servers do not communicate
with the Toolbox classes until the classes authenticate with a valid userid
and password. *NONE is not a valid password. (This is actually good
behavior from a security point of view. Allowing client/server
communication without a password is usually a bad idea). Anyway, you said
you specify *current for userid and password. In this case the Toolbox
picks up the current job's userid and password. If the password is *NONE,
the Toolbox cannot communicate with the servers.

If you don't want to change the security attributes of the Java program,
and if the servlet and file are on the same AS/400, an alternative to using
Toolbox classes is the java.io classes that come with Java. The AS/400's
JVM convert java.io.* class method into calls to the AS/400 file system.
This works only if file and java program are on the same box.

I hope this helps,

David Wall

Dan,

     Thank you for your Info, Basically the problem was with the version of
websphere we had. It was not recognizing the AS400 class. I was able to get
it working, If i supply the userid and password. but it does not work when
I use *current as the userid and password. Do you have any suggestions.
I
Thanks again all.

Where do you logon to the AS/400. When you create a new as400 object there
are 3 constructors. by setting the conn to null
and creating a new as400 WITHOUT connection info. Only catch a general
Exception and print the Exception variable. This
will help debug the error.

Hi all,

     I am trying to Read a Stream File and Display the Data on a browser.
For
this to happen I create a AS400 object and then read the data from the
StreamFile. It creates the HTML header,But never displays the data from the
Stream File. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thank  you

Naveen Dass

public class DspStreamFile extends HttpServlet {
   Connection conn = null;

public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
                                throws ServletException, IOException {

      res.setContentType("text/html");
      PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
      out.println("<html><TITLE>Display Stream File</TITLE>");
      out.println("<BODY><FORM><PRE>");
      try
      {
      AS400 as400 = new AS400();
      //as400.connectService(AS400.DATAQUEUE);
      IFSFile myFile = new IFSFile(as400,"/naveen/DspSpoolFile.java");
      IFSTextFileInputStream st = new IFSTextFileInputStream(as400,
      myFile,IFSTextFileInputStream.SHARE_ALL);
      out.println("<P>Dass</P>");
      out.print(st.read(st.available()));
      }
      catch (AS400SecurityException ase)
          {
          out.println("Error while reading");
          }
      catch(java.io.IOException ioe)
          {
          out.println("Error while reading");
          }
      out.println("</PRE></FORM></BODY></HTML>");
      out.close();

}
}
