The short answer: A static means there is only one instance of that variable which is shared by all the objects of a class type. Class MyClass() { public static int myInt = 4; } // In code some place... MyClass instance1 = new MyClass(); MyClass instance2 = new MyClass(); // Both instance1 and instance2 have access to myInt, but they are refering to the same single value. Final means that you can extend it in your own hierarchy. Class MyString extends java.lang.String won't work because java.lang.String is final. Regards, Richard D.
