PMFJI. Larry nailed it, but let me just add that your points about the benefits of analyzing and optimizing a "whole program" are certainly well-taken, and in a "contained" and statically-analyzable* universe of bytecode, I'll bet a cup of coffee that OPTIMIZE(40) -- or its equivalents on whatever platform -- will beat the JIT every time, particularly if the optimization is feedback-directed. That is one of the longest sentences I've ever written. -blair *Of course, the speculatively-hyphenated weasel-word "statically-analyzable" is technically at odds with the word "compliance." +--- | This is the JAVA/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to JAVA400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to JAVA400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to JAVA400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner: joe@zappie.net +---
