Hello,

First, from an architecture perspective, you would not want to access the
database within a servlet, or any ui class for that matter. You should
create classes that handle database functions solely. Your servlets and
other classes can utilize these database access classes for db functions.

In regard to your question, you will have to use both SQL and JDBC to some
extent. For update, insert, and delete functions, JDBC is a little easier
to code, but I think most of us who are familiar with SQL continue to use
it.

However, I think most java shops at this point either have a database
framework or are implementing EJBs. So direct database coding in java,
except for an occasional SQL query, is essentially a thing of the past.

In any regard, I would not use the as/400 access classes. Also, I would
highly recommend upgrading your websphere to 3.02.

Thanks,
Dave
