My ISP has a re-login function that somehow invalidates the uid/pwd
information. When I click that function, I get an "Authorization failed.
Retry?" dialog. When I click "OK", I get a new login box.

It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it does work. I don't know
what is behind it as the re-login function calls a CGI, but obviously it is
handled from the server side.

OTOH, maybe the way to go is not use the built-in browser authentication
method but have your own login page, then you can display it whenever you
want.
