The runProgram function of ProgramCall class returns a boolean value.
If the returned value is true it means the program execution was successful

Subject: Return codes from RPG programs.
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if someone could point me in the right
direction in my everlasting effort to solve my little
dilema. I'm executing an application from a servlet,
but I'm unable to tell whether the RPG program
completed successfully or not? My question: Is there
a way to return a completion variable from an RPG
program to a java servlet?
Hope this makes sense, and thanks for you help
