Thanks for your answer. I'm sorry it's not the problem. I wrote in my 
first e-mail the config.sys includes "shell=c:\command.com /p /e:32000". I 
also tried "... /e:96000" and the error still occurs.

Add the line:

shell=c:\command.com /p /e:32000

to your config.sys file to expand the environment. Be sure the location of
command.com is referenced appropriately (ie, ensure its in the root if you
the code as shown). 32000 is arbitrary and can be less or more, but 32000
works for me and VAJ just fine. If you don't have a config.sys, add one.

This is an old DOS trick for expanding the environment and is just what 
you
need. Leave to IBM to suggest reinstalling Win95. Remember, the number one
criteria that IBM used to measure tech support is how quickly they can 
hang
up the phone.
