Interesting ideas on why not to start with an IDE.
I started learning Java at the same time I started with VisualAge for Java,
so I did use an IDE. (I have a background including C++, which probably
helps..)

By examing the code produced by the IDE, I learned a number of concepts.
Over time however, I have begun to dislike the code produced by the IDE and
I write all of my own now. I still use the IDE for debugging, editing, and
managing projects, and to add properties, etc., but I stay away from the VCE
for the most part.

Looking back on it, I think it is hard to say I would have been better off
coding java from the get go with Notepad or another editor. I think it made
it a bit easier to get things done from the get-go.

My 2 cents..

Luther
