Hello,
             I feel C is not that essential to start JAVA on AS/400. Since
UR working for an organisation, U know basic programming knowledge. Anyway
as/400 follows object oriented concept(partially). So it is better to
understand OOP concepts and Java
is without pointer concept.
            Again the time constraint. If there is any urgency sort of
thing learn oop concepts and start coding Java, if not
 spend some more time on C++.
 For coding Java programs on AS/400 understand the following--
             1. IFS(integrated file system)
             2. QSHELL and
             3. Command relating to Java compilation and Execution in
AS/400 environment.
