  • Subject: New release of PBD! Full client/server support!

Hey there folks! I realize it's been a little while since I posted. I just got
back from Tel Aviv, where I taught a class on Java/400 for IBM Israel. It went
VERY well; within four days, the students were using the PBD packages to create
client/server applications.

I've made quite a few enhancements to the packages; here's a partial list of the
features:

     JBUI: Java Blockmode Interface
          Entry Fields
          Output Fields
          Display Panels
          List Panels
          Split Panels
All panels support sizing and scrolling, but require no programmer
knowledge of Swing! Field protection, error message support, buttons with
     function key accelerators.

Go to http://www.zappie.net/images/JbuiSplit.gif to see an example.

JDB/400: Java Database for the AS/400
          Keyed Files Support
          Sequential File Support
          Input Only
          Update
          Partial Key Processing
Opcodes include: CHAIN, SETLL, READE, UPDAT, WRITE, DELET
All files use AS/400 naming syntax and support field naming conventions.
Support for use with the JBUI classes to quickly develop panels.

JAO/400: Java Application Objects for the AS/400. This package is a
combination of JBUI and JDB/400, allowing development of entire simple
application panels with just a few lines of code.

JDQM/400: Java Data Queue Messaging for the AS/400
          Sessions
          Servers
This package uses data queues to easily and seamlessly connect programs
either on the AS/400, on the workstation or both. Clients and servers can
reside on either platform. Included is a fully functional client/server
file master maintenance application, redeployed according to my articles in
the May issue of MC magazine.

This release includes updated Javadoc (using the Java 2 style), examples for
each package, full source and a savefile of the PBD400 library to allow
immediate use of the programs.
