Yes they are but beware if people say Java is young wait till you start playing with servlets on the 400. I just put the latest fixes on which I thought would improve performance on start-up which is always slow and yet it seems worse :) The way we look at this is Servlets are long term short term we will continue to use Net.Data to get going and start building them together with servlets. I had a look at things like Visual Age for Java and it seems to have a really nice visual builder for servlets which is what you want. If I can build servlets in the same way I build a web page thats what interests me. I dont have the worry of what the client has on the PC Java wise as I know what the 400 can do lots and lots of advantages but buyer beware :) Thanks Bleddyn http://www.ignite400.org/ your AS/400 Internet/Intranet questions answered. -----Original Message----- From: owner-java400-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-java400-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Roger Pence Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 1999 07:14 To: JAVA400-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Servlet and WebSphere >Hi Ken we have been playing with servlets since it first came out on the 400 >at IGNITe/400 and a few thoughts. Bleddyn (or informed others)-- It seems to me like Java servlets is _the_ place where server-side Java will get real with the AS/400 this year. From everything I've read, Java servlets look like a great alternative to the traditional CGI programming methods used to bring results to the Web (assuming IBM gets its documentation and performance act together). Am I nuts? Aren't Java servlets (assuming you have V4R3 or higher) a great place to start looking for instant payback with Java on the AS/400? Thanks for your thoughts... rp +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to JAVA400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to JAVA400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to JAVA400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to JAVA400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to JAVA400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to JAVA400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
