The problem is that Client Access is not a "zero footprint" option like a browser. Even though most machines have some sort of free 5250 capability (thanks to things like TN5250), they're not as commonplace as browsers. I had to install TN5250 on my EEE PC, while Firefox was already there.

But even if you can get Client Access on a machine, there are issues. And here's the funny thing: the perceived support requirement is sometimes a bit different. When a web application doesn't work, folks blame the browser and are sometimes willing to give you some slack. But when Client Access acts up, the application vendor is at fault. And when you're trying to support clients around the globe, that can result in 2:30 AM phone calls.
