I'm guessing from your question that the size has not improved. The
deleted documents in the show command might be deletion stubs rather than
full documents that were deleted. I think I've seen that the life of the
deletion stub is determined by the number of days in the replication space
saver properties. But they shouldn't be very large, so I'm wondering if
the extra size you are looking at is the views. It would be interesting
to see how large the Patternfile view really is, for example.

dbcache flush
