Thanks for your posts, Tom. I just recently got off the phone with IBM Tech Support. He also looked at the buffer size, so I would have to say that your dabbling is pretty well on-target. And so was your analysis as to whether it was the cause or not... The actual cause appears to be a known issue with mail rules. The hotfix for my current release of the Domino server just became available. I have been operating under a misunderstanding whenever mail rules would be suggested as a cause. I had seen the SPR in the knowledge base and thought that it didn't apply to our situation because I'm the only one that makes any changes to server rules, and I hadn't made any. He straightened me out -- the SPR actually is concerned with all mail rules, as client mail rules are also registered and run on the server -- a fact that I knew, but wasn't accounting for. Tonight, I will be applying the hotfix and trying once again to recreate the problem to test. Fingers and toes are firmly crossed. ;-) Thanks again, Patrick Tom Kreimer <tkreimer@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: domino400-bounces+ptrapp=nex-tech.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx 02/14/2006 10:30 PM Please respond to Lotus Domino on the iSeries / AS400 <domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To Lotus Domino on the iSeries / AS400 <domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject Re: Normal CPU? A quick follow-up to my previous post: Based on the help text I copied from the AS/400, it might sound like I might be recommending decreasing the buffer size. You might want to try it both ways. Decreasing it will slow down the data transfer. Increasing it will allow more of the individual e-mail messages to be received. Note that this is not the buffer size for the entire system, but for each TCP conversation, so be careful with really large numbers. Either way, the problem is probably on the receivers end, processing the buffers. Larger buffers might just mask the problem. A really small buffer might help point out which packet is choking the system, if packet data is the problem.
