I am going to the Launch in NYC for R7 this Tuesday. I will be asking the same questions about DB2 for iSeries etc. My assumption at this point is 7.01 will support iseries DB2, however you still need an iSeries box capable of running DB2/400-UDB on V5R3. The Database features are not cheap, when you run multiple processors. P40 and P50 etc. We run terabytes of Domino Data (mail + Apps) in a Large Cluster. I don't see us migrating that data if we cannot easily cluster it as we do today. >From an AppDev Perspective we have been toying with R7 and DB2 and there are some nice new features, but not enough to make us want to switch away from the standard Domino container. It is just too easy to maintain. DB2 presents a whole barrel full of monkeys that we may not want to tackle until R8. We are also firing up Websphere Portal Pilot, and Workplace. (not the messaging part), in prep for the next two years of RnD and AppDev. I thought for the client to resolve a server, it needed either: - connection doc with IP - connection doc with DNS address - server in WINS My understanding is that the client will look for a connection doc and use the information there to find the server. Upon not finding the server, it will reference your server's NNN to find a valid address and finally WINS using the host name. How would the client reference DNS for the proper domain: e.g. I am on .ca.usa.com and my server is on .md.usa.com. How would the client know to query server1.md.usa.com? Is there something you need to do in DNS, like just a server1 alias? I am curious because when we moved from Win32 to the iSeries, two weeks after our migrations, mis-configured clients all of a sudden could not get to the server since the WINS entries tombstoned. The only solutions were to have the users configure properly or put in static WINS entries that would not expire. Due to the volume of calls, we had to go with static WINS entries and worry about mis-configured clients for another day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a PRIVATE message. Currently we're maintaining our dns server locally and have a BP who's hosting the hardware we restored our R6.5 data on. We can ping the remote server so we know were talking. But were having a problem having users connect to Notes at the DR site. We want our users to not notice that the server is no longer on site, Apparently R6.5.1 is smart enough to know when our local site is up that it won't even try to connect to the DR site. The only way we can force a connect (while the local site is up) is to do a file, database, open, and enter the IP address of the server at the DR site. I'm not sure though, how to tell the notes clients that in the event that our local server is not responding that it should look for the server at the DR site. My thought is to enter Secondary Server info in the Advanced setting of my location document on my client in the hope that it will use it to refer to the DR site. If this works then I can use a desktop policy setting to roll this info out to the clients. I'm going to test this tonight. Comments anyone? I did follow your instruction to "remove the ip from the client connection document (it is optional) and the clients will use the DNS to resolve the server name." We ended domino locally and changed the dns to point to the DR site. On the client we deleted the cache.ndk and did an ipconfig /flushdns and restarted notes on the client. It still wanted to connect to the last known address and it wouldn't resolve to the same FQDN at the DR site. We are using R6.5.1. Is it a live site that you could continuously replicate to? Notes would know to look for that failover site. However, if you can't resolve the FQDN to that other site, it sounds like you may have more than a Notes issue. Are you able to resolve the DR site from the Windows Ping command?
