Rob,
6.5.4 has been an easy upgrade, and R6.03 and up allows for multiple
version support. We
are using multiple version support to upgrade one server at a time.
You will need to stop all domino servers, stay off the domino console and
install the 6.5.4 licenced code first.
Once installed you can run the UPPDDOMSVR command at any time to upgrade
each server. Other domino servers
can be running on the same machine while the upgrade is being performed.
So we have a mix of 6.03 and 6.54 running on the same iSeries machines.
With any domino install the core templates are updated and design will
update all of your databases, unless you delete the template
after upgrading and before restarting domino. I did not update our mail
templates, I left them at the pervious version for now, until I can fully
test them.
As far as TrendMicro, we have not been able to run the update the latest
scan engine successfully with multiple domino versions installed on the
servers. It fails on signing the temeplates. We need to finish the install
manually be sigining the templates ourselves.
I did open an SPR with Trend and we are still awaiting a proper fix and
update to their documentation for this known issue.
I plan on updating two additional mail server domino partitons next week
and six more intranet servers in about four weeks after a full QA.

Great to hear! I'm still working with probably TCP issues with Lotus
support. I'm having to add some TCP debugging to my server...
Anyway, there are some cool enhancements with the 6.5.4 DWA template:

BUT, this potential gotcha is a biggie if you have a lot of DWA users:

Sean,
I just received my R6.5.4 software but haven't done any research yet.
Other than the usual ptf prep, are there any gotcha's that I need to be
aware of? I've only done one upgrade (almost a year ago from R5.11 to
R6.5.1) during my tenure as admin. Can I still use the same
manuals/checklist I used then? My only other question is that I use
TrendMicro Scanmail for my antivirus solution. If you use Trend also, were
there any gotcha's there? If you're not a Scanmail user ignore that
question. I will make a trip to their support site as part of my prep work
anyway.

I forget if there were any hairy's about Trend, but we are running 6.5.4
with Trend. If you remember, Trend added support for PUPDATE to not only
bring down pattern files but also new Scan Engines. You do have to give
QNOTES *ALLOBJ to get this working. If you did, and you upgrade Domino it
always drops QNOTES back down and you'll have to manually make that
change.
