Generally speaking R6 runs fine on iSeries and according to IBM it can handle a larger workload than R5. I fould that when we first upgraded in December of 2003 from Domino R5.11 to R6.03 we gained back some CPU utilization but we had a higher paging and faulting rate. Response time aslo seemed a bit solwer than R5. This is a model 170. What is the config? How many processors and memory, disk etc. You say the iSeries has three partitions running domino 5.12. It has 3 LPARs or 3 Domino severs? There is a big difference... How many users? What kind of workload? Notes Client and HTTP workload? I would also be very concerned with upgrading to R6. Are you going to QA your CRM systems on Domino R6? Are you upgrading the clients as well? Did you know that there are issues with 6.5.3? Search this forum for 6.5.3. I would recommend using 6.5.1 Regards, Sean http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com domino400-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent by: domino400-bounces+seanmurphy=bedbath.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx 12/21/2004 01:01 PM Please respond to domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx To domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx cc Subject Domino400 Digest, Vol 2, Issue 214 Send Domino400 mailing list submissions to domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/domino400 or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to domino400-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx You can reach the person managing the list at domino400-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxx When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Domino400 digest..." All: I have been asked to help with a Domino upgrade on a 170 model 9406 V5R1. Currently, this iSeries has 3 partitions on it running R5.0.12. They want to move to R6.5.3, iNotes, maybe a Domino intranet site. The partitions aren't really being taxed, in that one partition is running mail, SMTP, and the like and the other two partitions are running "some sort" of Domino CRM system. Each of the other 2 partitions are running the CRM but for one specific area of the company (for example one partition is running it for the Canadian division and the other for the US/"other" divisions). They have plenty of DASD, and I am waiting for the RAM. What else should I be looking at? This 170 is doing nothing but Domino tasks. Everything else is on their 820. I just want to make sure that putting R6.5.3 won't tax this iSeries too much, at least not so much that the users are directly impacted. Thanks. I don't remember the O/S requirements for the proposed version of Domino -- that, and the hardware necessary for it, might well be more significant factors than the Domino version itself. Does the Server.Load utility provide any help for this question?
