Your phrasing implies that it was possible on R5. I'm not aware of whether it would work or not, but my instincts say no. Working with clients, downgrading over the top of an existing client has been problematic for me. I prefer to downgrade to a different location. I would presume the same applies on a server, but can't say I've tested it.
