As promised, I am posting my production results on this latest Scanmail
Hotfix 1584.

It has been two weeks since we applied Hotfix 1584, so far so good no
crashes during PUPDATE.

However PUPDATE does not delete old pattern files out the /smln/scanmail
and /smln/AU folders.
To be sure this was not a QNOTES rights issue, I changed QNOTES back to
SECOFR will ALLOBJ.
No dice, pupdate will not clean up the files. I will have to add this to
the monthy cleanup maintenance :(

Note: this hotfix is not installed as a PTF. It can only be removed
manually. It does not change the Scanmail build # to Build 1584.
It stays the same. From what I can see it installs four new files in the
trendmicro library.
I have backed up those files and have tested un-installing the hotfix
manually.
I suggest you do the same.

On another note Scanmail for Domino V3 is out for Windows platform. I
have tested it, and it seems pretty straight forward, but this new version
when installed does not fully migrate existing content filter rule sets.
They have added new features in their designs which make searching the
Quarantine log easier. I actually applied the ScanMail Quarantine Log
template to my existing 2.6 build which contains lots of documents, works
well.

Let's see if they can get content filtering to work on the iSeries.

1) Getting lots of abend's and nsd's when running pupdate. I ALWAYS run
pupdate with the -debug option. Creates a file in your data directory
smlog/pattdnld.dbg
End of file may look something like:
readoldval ItemName = $Revisions
Patternbuild == 0
Error for mkdir
tempdir = /QUALITY2/NOTES/DATA/smln/scanengine/downloadtemp
Error from Active update Scanengine = Generic source network failure
readpattern is = 195300
tmpstr is = 953.195300
Set the current pattern to = 953.195300
Error from Active update pattern = åÁ>ÁÊÑÄ Ë?ÍÊÄÁ >ÁÈÏ?Ê, Ã/Ñ%ÍÊÁ
Error from Active update spam pattern = åÁ>ÁÊÑÄ Ë?ÍÊÄÁ >ÁÈÏ?Ê, Ã/Ñ%ÍÊÁ
 ************End of Data********************

2) Known problem if you send notifications when new pattern files, or new
scan engines are downloaded. If you send the notifications to more than
one person. I am downloading a file from their ftp site that is named
SMLN2.6SP1_Hotfix_(EN)_AS400_B1557.zip and takes 19521663 bytes. Of
course
their ftp site ends with .ph
http://www.andrewu.co.uk/tools/domaincountries/default.asp

Remember, not that you need it for pattern file downloads, but if you want
scan engine downloads you need to give QNOTES *ALLOBJ authority.

I found one potential workaround on the NSD's. Seems that once you have
pupdate on a program document it tries to run it every time you restart
the
server. In that case I did a WRKOBJ *ALL/PUPDATE*. I renamed the two
copies out there to PUPDATEB. Then I brought the server up and it
worked. Used option 9 to make sure all tasks were up. Then I waited a
couple more minutes. Then I did another WRKOBJ *ALL/PUPDATE*. I renamed
them back. Then I did a load pupdate -debug and at least it doesn't down
the server.

Maybe it's just like how notes loves to play games with my notes.ini and
concatenate lines. Perhaps trend likes to come up all the way before it
runs a pupdate???

I'll keep you posted on the hotfix.

We are putting 2.6sp1 on our cluster backup server. We still have 2.51 on
our primary servers.

Remember when I said I was having an issue where most of my images in my
email were being replaced with [IMAGE]? Lookie at this readme file from
trend's hotfix:

o #53676: Most documents are converted by MIME conversion. Some Pictures
are
replaced to a string "[Image]".

#53305, #54269: A crash inside Scanengine by dbscan

#53320: Send notification from PUPDATE task failed, if multiple
reciepients
are selected.

Well, maybe that explains my pmr 41888,500!

I wonder if that is also why my signatures are going bonkers? But I would
think that would be an inbound issue, not an outbound issue. Worth a shot
though...

I bet if they could spell it would be easier to scan on words.

Hotfix 1557 fixed the issue with multiple recipients on new pattern file
and/or scan engine, downloads.

I am seeing about getting hotfix 1584 to fix the problem with downloads
versus the Active Server error.

Been awhile.

However, one of the most important things is to check the compatibility of

companion products. For example if you are running Sametime, QuickPlace,
LEI, Trend, etc. There is a very restricted set that will play well with
each other. If you need help finding the charts, let me know.

Without a doubt, get to R6 prior to going to V5R3 of OS/400.

Another idea is to search for Redbooks, etc on the migration. It's hard
for us to complain to IBM about documentation when we don't look at it.

Make sure you have a great backup and test before moving forward.

If at all possible test any application you may be running before going
live. After performing the update ran into problems with DECS. Lotus is
still trying to resolve.

Make sure that you run a compact against the names.nsf, need to make sure
ODS is at 43

Update / Replace design of all server required databases after upgrade,
especially log.nsf, admin4.nsf, and certlog.nsf. I was not able to view
log file activity until database design is replaced.

yeah, and I have a LEI issue open that probably won't be resolved until
6.5.3

Involves the use of CALL LEIACT.

Anytime I have an issue with that it normally takes IBM a year or more to
solve.

Most people shouldn't have this issue. But if you do things like have a
never ending program that reads requests from a data queue and then
processes that request with CALL LEIACT. Sooner or later it will hurl.
Even knowing what I do, I wouldn't have let it be a show stopper for the
R6 migration.
