Ouch, I didn't realize the switching portion of IASP was chargeable. As
P10s, thats over $8K.
We have the 920 maxed on drives, as well as 2 5074s on each system
(approx 1.2T per system)
But we have a large quantity and volume of unreplicated application DBs.
Was planning on moving one 5074 to a seperate HSL loop between the
systems. Ooops, I wonder if I will need additional HSL adapters on the
820s. I'll need to check that also.

Thanks for helping me find the holes in this plan. At this rate, Disk
would be cheaper, if the darn 5074 wasn't so expensive.

Bob,

I don't have specific information regarding the use of Domino on the
IASP, although what you are describing is exactly one of the uses for
which this function was intended.

I just wanted to raise the hardware/planning issues. If you don't
currently have DASD to replicate your databases, it may be more
economical to buy the extra DASD than to implement a switchable iASP.
Below are some considerations, applicable to a V5R1 installation:

- Both iSeries machines will need to have Option 41 of OS/400 installed.
This is the 'High Available Switchable Resources' feature. It is an
extra-charge feature (P05-$2,085 P10-$4,170 USD). This is not
required to implement an independent ASP, but it is required to allow
the iASP to be switched between two or more systems.

- The DASD to be switched needs to be in its own storage tower,
connected to both systems in an HSL loop. All drives in that tower
would be switched between systems.

If you are close to this kind of configuration, then it may make sense
to proceed. Given the ease with which Domino replicates and switches in
it's own cluster, if you're not close I would try adding some disk.

Some questions:

The 820 has slots for 12 internal drives, have you filled up this
capacity?

Do you already have a storage tower(s) on either system?

What does your current disk configuration look like?

Regards,
Andy Nolen-Parkhouse

(If you've already done this homework, I apologize for the digression to
your question).

Subject: Is anyone using IASP with Domino

I am investigating using an Independent ASP to help rpovide higher
availability of some Domino Apps. Currently we are running multiple
domino Servers on two 820 DSD systems. Most Mail is replicated across
the two systems. However, some Applications are not replicated. We run
24X7 using BRMS to save while active.

Monthly we perform system saves. When the first box is down for the
save, replicated mail users fail to the other system. (We only bring
down one box at a time.) Problem is the unreplicated applications,

they

are unavailable.

I would like to configure an independent ASP between the two systems.
When system A is unavailable, I would like the user to be able to

access

the applications thru B, and vice-versa. But I only have enough DASD

for

one copy of these databases.

Has anyone ever attempted using IASP with Domino?
