First of all did you read: http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/domino/faqs/install3.htm#anchor2 There is a little note: Even if you use BRMS "save-while-active" capability, we recommend that you also periodically perform a complete save with your Domino servers offline. See also, this seems to be more thorough: http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/service/brms/ It is critical that you do not replace your complete system backup with only online Lotus Server backups. The online Lotus Server backups only backup databases. There are other important Lotus Server pieces of data including libraries, files in the Lotus Server IFS directories and other non Lotus Server system data that should be backed up on some regular basis (ie. QUSRSYS, QGPL, etc). There are some tricks to clustered databases. For example, if you have server1 and server2 in a cluster, you have to replicate the database manually from server1 to server2 before you will have a replica on that server. Domino doesn't do that automatically. For example, if you create a new user their mail file may only be on server1 until you create a replica on server2 manually. We purchased software from: http://www.akornn.com/ to help with that. If you buy this give me a email about suggested steps! Now, we test our clusters every day. We drop the primary servers at night and do a regular backup. Anyone accessing at that time automatically goes over to the cluster replica. On Thursdays during the day we drop the secondary servers. Anyone running on those automatically go over to the primaries. Only issues with clustering we have noted are: - You have to initially replicate the databases yourself. But we've already discussed this. - Unread markers may be a little off - You may have to exit the database and reopen it. Like close your mail and reopen it. You do not need to exit Notes entirely. I am really impressed with how smoothly clustering works. Somehow the client knows to use the alternate IP address. We don't have to panic and change any PC settings, routers, switches, etc. I wonder if the OS/400 clustering products like Mimix, etc can work that smoothly. When we asked our BP about this, he said "No, that doesn't work! You should cluster your server and back up from the clustered server" Which is the best approach?
