Changing the number of mail.box es

I want to change from a single mail.box to 4 mail.boxes without bouncing
the server.  Can I edit the configuration doc, change the number of mail
boxes and
tell router quit
load router

Or is there something else I am missing?

Will it build the new mail.box files itself?

Do I need to open the old mail.box afterwards and copy the entries to one
of the new mail.box files?
