Consumer driven? i think the reverseis going on at WalMArt. If (as is the case in my area) so many are out of work or had to take lesser paying jobs due to plant closings, then all they can afford is Walmart. Driving down wages is expanding the class 
of people that can only afford cheap products. I think it's only a myth that
consumers "drive" the movement of big corporations. We are being herded like cattle. I worked on some plumbing this weekend. I would "like" to buy parts that will last more than a few years. All the "big stores" sell cheaper (and less reliable) parts. The better plumbing stores have been driven out. I have "no choice...." and can only buy what they put on the shelf. This is not consumer driven retail, it is corporate 
mass purchasing (and drive your supplier to reduce cost) driven.

And if you have a problem with Chinese made stuff, why did you buy it?
The reason WalMart sells so much "made in China" stuff is because consumers 
(YOU!) buy it.  If you stop buying it, they will stop putting it on their
shelves.

Many of the things bought at WalMart are not, have not been and will never 
be made in the USA.
