Difficulties connecting warehouse printers to AS/400 WHY???



I wish to understand why going to a new remote warehouse and trying to connect 
simple forms printers say the IBM 6704, and a Monarch Label printers is such an 
ordeal. For example with an HP I create an outq, that is IP Netadr, and I'm 
done. With the other printers I have to guess. Should I also create a Device? 
Why, what type? Should I check the printers config parameters? OK, what am I 
missing in this. Is it supposed to be an art form, or do I lack the 
intelligence for this type of assignment?
