Once upon a time I was an IS director and had about 20 people reporting to me. HR had various rules and regulations about overtime, beeper pay, etc. Their 'rules' were horrendously complicated, especially with respect to beeper pay. My goal was that if someone put in an extra effort, they got a little benefit. You get stuck with the beeper for the weekend, here's a few bucks to take your wife/husband out to dinner. My group and I all agreed to keep it somewhat casual - you get beeped and have to come in, track your time and you can sneak out early or come in late to make up the difference. 'Officially', salaried people weren't entitled to that. Beeper carrying and getting called in to unjam a printer on a Saturday was beyond the normal call of duty, so a little extra was only fair. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Go... FASTER!
