My program has to be able to perform the whole process on an AS/400. Also, the fields may, or may not be the same length in both files. Will varpg do anything for me that the QDCXLATE API won't? Thanks for any help! Hi Chris I wrote a VARPG application that read an AS400 file and wrote it to a local file on the PC. It did all the conversions for me. I do not see why you could not write a VARPG program to read a local file(Ascii) and write it to the AS400. VARPG should handle the translation for you , or so I think. >>> cproctor@gartsports.com 03/15/02 03:35PM >>> This message is in MIME format. You see, we have an application that converts AS/400 data to ascii for download to the store controllers using QFRXLT to do the field translation. I now have to write an application that does the opposite, converting ascii to ebcdic. I found the QDCXLATE API and I assume that may be a newer conversion utility. However, I'm wondering if I might be able to create a non-GUI VARPG application that could make the data conversion process easier? Does this make any sense or am I way out in left field? Perhaps, someone may have even another solution......
