Phil / Reeve,
WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries consolidates all of the key
iSeries AD tools into 1 product and WDS is a no charge upgrade from any of
the previous products with software subscription.
There will no longer be separate individual AD tools as products. After the
introduction of WDS, the individual tools ( ILE RPG, ILE COBOL, ILE C, ILE
C++, ADTS, CODE, VisualAge RPG, WebFacing Tool, WebSphere Studio for
iSeries, VisualAge for Java for iSeries) will disappear as products and
ONLY be available through WDS in the iSeries marketplace .
About the use of the WebSphere name.... I was involved in the naming
process...a painfull process. I have no comment.
Thanks, Dave

Phil, it's been renamed "WebSphere MQ" because
"WebsphereGUIJavaSOILinuxLPAR
MQ" is not cool enough...

David,

Thanks very much for the info.

Ok, I think I understand. WebSphere Development Studio is the name of a
group of products, one being WebSphere Studio.

Whew, I think you're over using the word WebSphere! And I just read that
MQ
Series is being renamed to WebSphere MQ!

Phil,
You probably currently have WebSphere Development Tools for AS/400 V4R5M1,
(5769-WDT), that became available on October 20, 2000. It included:
WebSphere Studio for AS/400
VisualAge for Java for AS/400
CODE/400
VisualAge RPG

We just started shipping (May 25, 2001) WebSphere Development Studio for
iSeries (5769-WDS on V4R5, 5722-WDS on V5R1). These two products include
unlimited workstation licenses for the workstation tools. This is a new
release which contains:
WebFacing Tool
WebSphere Studio for iSeries
VisualAge for Java for iSeries
CODE
VisualAge RPG

WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries is a no charge upgrade with
software subscription from any of the IBM AD tools (like ADTS, ILE RPG...)

I'm still confused. I have V4R5M1 of WDTS/400. Do I have the latest
version? I don't have the WebFacing tool. The as/400 is at V4R5 so I know
any compiler enhancements included with V5R1 I don't have.

Phil,
WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries is the ONE iSeries AD product that
replaces all of the individual tools. It includes:
Host Products
ILE RPG
ILE COBOL
ILE C
ILE C++
Application Development ToolSet (SEU, PDM, SDA, etc....)

Workstation Tools (with unlimited workstation licenses per server)
WebFacing Tool
WebSphere Studio for iSeries (plus iSeries Affinity enhancements)
VisualAge for Java for iSeries (with ET/400)
CODE
VisualAge RPG

WDS is a no charge upgrade from any of the iSeries AD tools with software
subscription

The iSeries product number for WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries
V5R1 is 5722-WDS.
The iSeries product number for WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries
V4R5 is 5769-WDS.

The same level of the workstation tools, WebSphere Development Tools for
iSeries,V5.1, is shipped with both the V5R1 and V4R5 versions of WDS. Only
the level of the host products is different. IBM did this to maximize the
availability of the workstation tools, especially the WebFacing Tool.

 Thanks, Dave

Does anyone know how to order V5R1 of wdts?

And what's is Websphere Development Studio? Has there been another
renaming?

Thanks,

Phil
