Rob,
I just went through training our group of programmers. I spent a
while using CODE/400 myself, both taking a tutorial and using it for
production work. IBM has several tutorials on their web site:
http://207.25.251.248/software/ad/wdt400/course_downloads.html
Then when the time was right, I just trained them using the same
tutorial/lab. It seemed to work out ok.
I had more trouble getting the software loaded and working than I did
with training. This mailing list is a good source of knowledge for
installation problems, along with the IBM website:
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ad/wdt400/
and news group:
news.software.ibm.com (the account) and ibm.software.code400 (the
newsgroup)
Good Luck

Well, my boss went to COMMON and came back quite enamored with Code/400.
Isn't it funny how sometimes it takes someone from the outside to turn on
the light switch? I suppose it's my fault for not learning it on my own
and doing the razzle-dazzle myself. Anyways...
What are your suggestions for getting started? Do we pour through manuals,
get an ATS course, hire a trainer to come on site, or what?
When we started doing RPGLE we hired a trainer to come on site for a few
days. We have a training room with 10 PC's in it set up.
I want to make sure that we come away with a thorough understanding of
Code/400. For example an article in Midrange Computing went on about REXX.
Said that you can't do the equivalent of F15 to change all the dates - you
had to write a rexx macro. So do you think we'll need at least some
introductory in that?
