If you are refering to Code/400 using the STRCODE command, No there is no
other way. The session you are using STRCODE command on is used as the
session that does what Code/400 requests it to. For instance, in the extras
menu option in code/400 you can 'Start PDM' if you select this;  the STRCODE
session WILL PROCESS THAT COMMAND AND START pdm FOR YOU.

Usually I do NOT use STRCODE for much at all. CODE/400 does not requirre an
open session to download code, edit it and upload it back to the 400. The
interactive debugger that is called from CODE/400 session DOES require a
STRCODE session but you can bypass this by calling the debugger from the
start menu or from the CODE toolbar. (activate by going to the start menu
/websphere.../Utilities/'START CODE and Visual....)
