Walter,

I can't comment on VARPG, but CODE/400 is definitely ready for prime time
and has been for many years. My comments may be a bit stale since I have
been on an ERP implementation project for the past 3 years and have not had
the opportunity to use CODE during this time, so take them with a grain of
salt. Although, I expect the CODE/400 of today to be much improved over the
last version I used. With the new pricing I cannot imagine why every RPG
development shop would not be using CODE/400. I understand the argument
between the CODE editor and SEU, although with it's additional flexibility I
would choose the CODE editor. They both have their strengths, but in the
end an editor is an editor. DSU and the debugger each are worth the price
of admission. We bought CODE at the time when it was very expensive and
required a very powerful (for the time) OS/2 workstation. Our total expense
per developer was close to $10,000 including the hardware (PS/2 Model 77s
with 17inch XGA monitors). We have always felt that it was a wise
investment that significantly improved our productivity and effectiveness as
developers.

Regards,
Stan

We are in the process of evaluating RPG/400 with ILE and VRPG & Code400 as
platforms for new applications.

We are an RPGIII shop.

We like the GUI of VRPG and the enforced structure of Code400, as well as
the progressive progamming approach of RPG/400 and ILE.

Based upon the few courses/books/articles we are wondering is VRPG and
Code400 ready for prime time?

Any thoughts?

Walter
