All this talk about VSCode and COBOL made me go take a look. I installed VSCode, Code for IBMi, and IBMi Development Pack.
Why do vertical lines appear on the screen at columns 1, 4, and 65 when working with a COBOL member? I don't see the point and I can't find a way to turn them off.

Yeah, I get where you are coming from. I am a fan of developers having good choices for tools. Every developer has individual preferences and more power to them (pun intended).
I feel like the VS Code extensions for IBMi development are still a bit in the early adoption phase. However, I am doing my best to be an early adopter. I have high hopes for what VS Code will grow into as an IBMi development tool.
If I understood correctly at the POWERUp conference, IBM is using VS Code as the base for its new Merlin IDE. (Sorry if I misunderstood this--and anyone please correct me if I am mistaken.) I'm sure it will be a customization of the VS Code open source, not a set of VS Code extensions. But it's interesting that IBM would not use RDi or Eclipse for the new Merlin IDE. That might say more about JAVA or about the widespread popularity of VS Code than about RDi itself, though.

If you are using only LPEX you are really missing out on something
- the object table is great - you can search for members over different files and through the whole library list - and much more - all things, the PDM can't do
- the string search features are very good and support regular expressions
- iSphere adds many small nice features like copying members between libraries and even between systems - and renames existing target members with configurable schemes (like NAME.1, NAME.2, ...)
- the user definable options are nice - OK but not so much better than the user definable options in PDM - only that you don't have to remember them, because of the pop up menu
In fact I don't do so much in PDM - I build commands to do the jobs and call them from RDi - this is easy, and my old brain doesn't have too much to remember.
But it's a long way - I forbid myself to use PDM for some month - and whenever I had something that would be faster on green screen, I searched for the right way in RDi - and almost every time I found a way - if not, I built one.
